Answer - No they are not.
When deciding on which type of downpipe to use you will need to ask yourself the following questions:-
- Do I want round or square pipe?
- Do I want aluminium or heavy duty upvc?
 |
Generally, the vast majority of domestic houses will opt for a round pipe which strangely enough seems to look better fitted to a seamless gutter than square pipes.
Aluminium or plastic? Typically, a full size aluminium pipe from gutter down to ground level will cost in the region of £300.00 + VAT. By contrast, the same pipe in heavy duty upvc will cost in the region of £90.00 + VAT. |
| |
Benefits of aluminium over heavy duty upvc are as follows:-
- Colour will not fade in the sun over the years (especially dark colours like black and brown)
- Authenticity and durability
- Available in any powder coated colour

One other option is the imitation cast iron pipe manufactured in plastic which offers a really authentic look. This type of pipe would cost in the region of £180.00 + VAT
